Delco Gives Community Spotlight

We recently reconnected with John who volunteers with ANEWAY and participates in art and karaoke social programs. He shared some of his favorite ANEWAY memories and what he’s excited about for the future.

Hi John. Thanks for talking today. How long have you been volunteering with Game on State or Aneway? And what do you usually do?

“I think a year. I usually walk Louis, Aimee’s dog.”

What’s your favorite art programming to do?

“A couple weeks ago, we made some clay, and… put some glaze on it (that) makes it glow in the dark.”

What did you make with the clay?

“A smiley face, it was pretty cool.”

What’s one thing you’ve learned while volunteering or doing art?

“Getting to know people more…interact with more people, getting to know them better.”

Do you have a favorite memory of something that happened during art or with friends?

“Aneway to Shine (ANEWAY’s Fundraising Gala) was a lot of fun…A lot of good food, a lot of good friends, and hanging out with different people.”

What’s one thing that you’re excited about or that you want to keep doing in the future

“Make more karaoke (sessions) on Fridays.”

Has being here (Game on State) helped you feel more included or within like a community?

“Yeah, I come..It feels like a good community, like a big family here…keeps me away from

watching TV during the day. Keeps me active.”

What’s an art project that you hope you can do in the future?

“I want to try to start a podcast.”

What would your podcast be about?

“Animals and cooking. Talk about sports… your favorite movie.”

Would you want to do that with other people that come to art and karaoke?

“Yeah that’d be cool. Tha’d be good.”
